Choosing the best natural puppy food can be overwhelming for a loving dog owner who wants only the best for his dog. There are just too many dog food choices!
This is the best advice that I can give: as a rule of thumb, it is best to steer clear of foods that contain byproducts, fillers, or any other ingredients that are not easy to digest. Surprising it may be but a number of better-known puppy food brands contain those ingredients.
Puppy food brands to avoid include Alpo, Ol’ Roy, Winalot and Kibbles ‘N’ Bits. Feeding your puppy any of these would be like you having fast-food at every meal!
A good natural puppy food choice would be Canidae, Orijen, Nature’s Variety, Flint River, Solid Gold, Merrick, Artemis, Wellness, Taste Of The Wild, California Natural, Innova, Blue Buffalo, or EVO.
If you had another brand in mind, do not be quick to assume it is not good just because I failed to name it on my list. A lot of new dog food brands get introduced to the market all the time so you can’t just dismiss them all as no good.
The important thing is to look at the list of ingredients to see if the dog food contains low-quality byproducts, fillers, or any other “mystery ingredients”.
Reading the list of ingredients is also important for another reason- you have to know what foods your dog will be gobbling up. According to a number of veterinarians, more and more dogs are said to be developing dog food allergies. Truth is, 5 to 10% of skin disorders in dogs are brought about by food allergy.
Right now no one knows the exact reason why more and more dogs are developing food allergies. What we know for certain is that when your dog does develop a food allergy the very first thing your vet will demand to know is the foods and the ingredients your dog has gobbled up over its lifetime.
Both you and your dog will be happiest when you do find a natural puppy food that works for you puppy and your budget!
