The family dog or house dog is by nature one that fits well into the family, is child friendly and lives in harmony with other pets.

There are a few other traits you might also want to consider: First, it will be important for your dog to display appropriate social behavior. Second, a high life expectancy might be nice, too. Third, choosing the dog solely based on the breed is not the best idea, rather choose him because you feel he will do well with his training.

The basic dog training that your family dog should learn is being housebroken. Some dogs are easily trained to be housebroken. For this, allot an area outside your home where your dog can do his business.

When you try to housebreak him, observe your dog and make mental notes of the times when he needs to go outside. This is usually sometime after having been feed, after sleeping, and before going to bed. So, when one of those scenarios happens, be mindful to take him outside or to his litter box. He needs your help to get it right, so be patient.

Don’t scold him if he’s taking too long because it will make him nervous and anxious. After he is done, don’t forget to give him a reward or praise, so that he’ll know that what he has done pleases you.

Most likely your dog will try and make you happy, so he will try to please you. With that being said, if your do does his business inside; of course you would not praise him. But do not punish him either; just take him outside as fast as possible.

Let’s move on to the next dog training concern: Chewing. Dogs love chewing, it is how they are made up genetically. In order to prevent him from chewing your carpet, furniture, and shoes, get him a chewing toy. That way he can happily chew away without any damage.

Your next step when it comes to dog training will be walking the dog out. They do need exercise but you shouldn’t let your dog loose even in a safe environment without your supervision.

When getting a leash and collar for him, make sure they fit perfectly. You would not want him to get out of it and take off.
