Once you’ve decided to feed your puppy only natural puppy food, you still have an other dog food decision to make: soft or hard dog food? This decision can be confusing to many of us.
Dogs certainly enjoy eating soft wet canned dog food. Soft dog food offers your dog a more natural and aromatic type of food compared to dry kibble in a bag.
It may strike us as amazing but the truth is dogs do not care at all how their food looks like. All that matters to them really is the taste and smell. After “people food”, they seem to regard soft canned food as the tastiest. We can perhaps attribute that to the aromatic smell of soft canned food.
On the other hand, you may have been told that dry food and other chewy items are a relevant part of your pet’s dental health. That is no myth. Indeed some good chewing workout is needed by your developing puppy.
If your dog is being fed solely with canned dog food, you have to provide it with something to chew on. However, that does not necessarily have to be dry dog food. A good alternative to dry dog food will be dog treats like dog biscuits. Furthermore, you can give your dog a chew toy so it can have a regular teeth and jaw exercise.
When you take your dog for routine veterinary checkups, your vet will examine your dog’s teeth and will let you know of any concerns and issue how to correct it with a different type of dog food, more opportunities to chew, or even dietary supplements.
Hard materials are needed by dogs for chewing. This is how they give their powerful jaw muscles a workout and strengthen their teeth. It is a way for them to take care of their teeth. Hard chew items also help in loosening the build up of plaque and tartar.
It is essential that you choose the best natural puppy food, since this sets the stage and maintains your puppy’s good dental health as well as nutritional requirements. If you would rather feed your dog wet, soft and tasty can foods it will be just fine, but do make sure that your dog also has access to things that he can give a good chew.
